Reis Haus
Project

Welcome to Kraftmar's latest endeavor, the Ikle & Reis Haus. This project involves the meticulous restoration and revitalization of two historically significant factory buildings located at Friedrich-Engels Strasse 26, Plauen. These edifices, now designated as historical monuments, are a testament to the rich industrial heritage of the region.

Historical Significance

The Ikle & Reis Haus comprises two former factories that date back to the early 20th century. Built in 1906, these buildings were initially designed by architect Gustav Richter for the Iklé company, a renowned name in the embroidery industry with roots stretching from St. Gallen, Switzerland, to major European cities including Paris, London, Hamburg, and Berlin.

The three-story structures, featuring robust sandstone cladding, pilaster strips, and geometric ornaments, were designed to accommodate the high demands of industrial embroidery. The large windows suggest an early use of steel skeleton construction, reflecting the functional design trends of the time. Originally, these buildings housed numerous embroidery machines and workspaces for both automated and hand embroidery.

Evolution Over Time

Throughout the decades, the Ikle & Reis buildings adapted to the changing needs of the textile industry. In the 1930s, they served as commercial spaces for the companies Iklé & Reis and Max Wittig, before transitioning into a wholesale office for textile goods in 1957. Despite modifications, including the installation of an elevator and the simplification of the façade, the buildings retained their architectural charm and industrial significance.

The Iklé Legacy

The Iklé family, originally from Hamburg, played a pivotal role in the development of the embroidery industry in Europe. The Iklé Frères company, founded in 1864, expanded its reach across the continent, establishing branches in Plauen, Germany, and beyond. The family's dedication to innovation and craftsmanship in embroidery is well-documented, with contributions spanning multiple generations and continents.

Our Vision

At Kraftmar, we are committed to preserving the historical essence of the Ikle & Reis Haus while breathing new life into these storied buildings. Our renovation project aims to restore their architectural splendor, maintaining the unique historical elements that define their character. With careful planning and design, we will transform these spaces into vibrant, functional properties that honor their industrial past and embrace a sustainable future.

Join us on this journey as we restore the Ikle & Reis Haus, blending history with modernity to create a lasting legacy in Plauen.
